The Astroturf Campaign
Launching the Astroturf campaign
The Chairman of the Foundation and of School Governors, Michael Terry launched the 2009 Astroturf campaign launched on 22 April at St Edmund's. Attending the inspiring occasion were double hockey Olympian, Mel Clewlow, School Governors and Senior Management Team, staff members and former pupils. The campaign aims to raise £500,000 to build a multi-purpose all-weather Astroturf on the Alps.
Mel Clewlow wholeheartedly welcomed this initiative to improve opportunities for youngsters to make the most of their abilities and to realise their hockey aspirations. Other sporting uses of the facility include tennis, cricket and basketball.
The Foundation is working closely with the St Edmund's Society to bring together former pupils around this exciting project. The campaign began with an invitation to all hockey captains from 1946 until 2007 to obtain their ideas, enthusiasm and support for this worthwhile initiative. The response was tremendous; not only from those attending the April event, but also from those unable to attend.
