Houses

All pupils in Years 3 to 8 are members of one of the four Houses. Each House is led by a staff Head of House and every teacher has a House affiliation. Through this vertical structure the House system fosters a sense of loyalty and belonging within the school.

The House system affords opportunities for older pupils to experience the skills of organisation, cooperation and leadership. Older pupils help and encourage younger members of their houses and assist with the organisation of house teams and events. Form 8 pupils hold posts of responsibility within. A boy and a girl house captain are appointed and a senior pupil from each House sits on the Junior School Charity Committee, which arranges charity events and collaborates with its counterpart in the Senior School. Through these functions senior pupils learn to work with a wide age range of pupils as well as teaching and support staff.

Competition is an important stimulus to achievement and houses challenge each other keenly in a wide range of annual competitions to win the House Cup. Stars (merit points) given for academic endeavour are also included in the House scores.
