Biography

Geoffrey Chaucer (1343-1400) was the son of a London Wine Merchant and although there are few details of his early life he is known to have travelled extensively and studied Law. His most famous literary work is "The Canterbury Tales" and tells of a group of people who travel to Canterbury on a pilgrimage to visit the tomb of St. Thomas Becket.

In 1556 his remains were reburied and he became the first writer interred in "Poets Corner" in Westminster Abbey.
