The Medical Centre
The Medical Centre is run by qualified nursing staff, under Sister Yvonne Landsberger and her deputies. Pupils may consult either male or female doctors. Dr Manson holds surgeries on Tuesday and Friday lunchtimes.
The medical centre is open on a 24/7 basis for both routine and emergency treatment. All pupils, boarders in particular, can always visit the Centre and be assured of immediate care and attention, from the simple provision of a throat lozenge to hospital or dental visits.
Sister will also issue 'off-games chits' when appropriate but she will not be sympathetic to those seeking to dodge cross-country.
All teaching staff have some first aid training and the qualified nursing staff in the Medical Centre provide a round-the-clock nursing service in case of illness or injury. It is helpful if working parents let us have a current business telephone number or a mobile phone number on which they may be contacted in case of emergency.
Boarders who become ill will be looked after in the Medical Centre. Parents will be notified by Sister if the child is likely to be in the Centre for a period of time. It is quite in order for parents to visit a child by arrangement with Sister. It is expected that boarders will recuperate at school, in the Medical Centre. In the case of prolonged convalescence, parents may prefer to make home arrangements for that recovery period. However, boarding pupils with infectious diseases, eg chicken pox, will be required to recuperate at home or with a guardian.
The school medical staff carry out a medical examination and screening of all boarders at some point on entry into the school and carry out twice-termly checks of height and weight. Height and weight checks for day pupils will be carried out as required or as requested by parents.
Sister Kate Abbott is also the medical officer at SummerFest which takes place at the School during the summer holiday for three weeks, from the last week of July to the second week in August.
