Curriculum
The Pre Prep School is an excellent base on which to build a well rounded education.

In Abingdon House we have 5 key objectives which underpin our main philosophy:
- Putting numeracy, literacy and oracy at the heart of our learning
- Encouraging a life long love of learning
- Developing a child's imagination, creativity and sensitivity
- Fostering self-esteem, self-discipline and self-confidence
- Identifying individual needs and developing potential
- Helping each child to be self-aware and, through this awareness, to respect and to work amicably with others
We follow the Foundation Curriculum and the National Curriculum which, together with the wider curriculum, offer a broad and balanced education for the early years.
We follow the Foundation Stage Curriculum in the Nursery Class (Ladybirds) and Reception Classes (Honey Bees and Bumble Bees).
We follow the skills from the National Curriculum Guidelines in Year 1 (Grasshoppers) and Year 2 (Dragonflies).
Foundation Curriculum
For children at the early stages of their education, Nursery and Reception classes, the Foundation Curriculum is organised into six areas of learning:
- Personal, social and emotional development
- Language and literacy
- Mathematical development
- Knowledge and understanding of the world
- Physical development
- Creative development
We aim, through the work in the Nursery, and Reception to develop every aspect of the child's life. Children will be given opportunities to experiment, experience, learn and consolidate. We place a lot of emphasis on extending the children's General Knowledge and experience of the world. We encourage the children to become confident in their dealings with other children, and with adults.
National Curriculum: Key Stage 1
During Key Stage 1 (Years 1 and 2), children will further develop their basic skills in reading, writing, speaking and listening and mathematics. They will also gain an understanding in a broad range of additional subjects through studying topics, whilst following a skills based curriculum. Another part of the educational breadth we seek is the development of every child's artistic, physical and musical skills.
