Exam Results 2008

GCSE results

St Edmund's School Canterbury celebrates excellent GCSE results, with 100% pass rate in eleven subjects at grade A* to C and with every candidate achieving an average 9.7 passes at A* - C

The following subjects had 100% pass rate at A* - C: Art (21), Chinese (1), Drama (31), German (3), History (29), Latin (3) Music (14), Polish (1), Religious Studies (8), Russian (1) and Spanish (12).

Benjamin Pape gained an impressive ten A* and two A grades, while two others achieved eleven A* or A grades with another three receiving ten A* or A grades.

"We are absolutely delighted with these results," said headmaster Jeremy Gladwin. "All our students worked incredibly hard for the exams and it is a fitting tribute to them and to our excellent teaching staff that everyone did so well."

"Most of them will be staying on with us to study for their A Levels and with a group of students of this calibre I am sure they will all do very well."

Please note that Government performance tables do not include IGCSE. In common with many other independent schools, St Edmund's pupils now take IGCSE Mathematics and, therefore, there will be a discrepancy in the figures quoted in different tables. Independent schools are also now excluded from value-added tables in which St Edmund's performs exceptionally well.

A Level Results

Staff and pupils at St Edmund's School Canterbury are celebrating the best A Level results ever with half the candidates achieving at least two A grades.

Sixteen pupils achieved straight As in three or more subjects with another twelve gaining two A grades.

"Whatever statistic you choose to use, these results were the best A Level results we have had," said headmaster Jeremy Gladwin. "These super results represent not only a significant achievement for our pupils but also reflect the commitment and dedication of the teachers."

"This year we had 58 candidates and we are proud of each and every one of them. Ninety per cent of the A-Level candidates gained three or more grades A-C. Also, Oliver Jones received an accolade from the AQA for achieving one of the top five marks in Drama and Theatre Studies out of 5088 candidates. These results mean that our pupils will read their chosen courses at prestigious universities."

Each year up to 45% of school leavers take up places at Oxbridge and Russell Group or equally selective institutions (such as Durham and York). At these prestigious universities, our pupils read for a full range of courses – from Medicine and Law to Science and the Humanities. Music and Performing Arts are equally strong. This year, one pupil who was offered four scholarships from the leading music academies, an outstanding achievement, will join another pupil at the Royal Academy of Music. Two of the Oxbridge successes are also to read Music. This year our first pupil has gained a place at Liverpool Institute for Performing Arts while ten artists will start foundation courses locally, leading to Art degrees.
