Excellent A level results for St Edmund's

Staff and pupils at St Edmund's School Canterbury celebrate 100% pass rate (A-E) for A Levels. The points per candidate and the percentage of candidates gaining 3 or more passes are the best results ever. Sixteen students gained more that 400 UCAS points. Tracy Du achieved the best individual results with 5As (and a B) and two grade 1 STEP (Cambridge Entrance) papers.

"These results are an outstanding accomplishment by our sixth formers. This year we had 49 candidates and we are proud of each and every one of them", said Headmaster Jeremy Gladwin. "The results are a noteworthy achievement for our pupils and reflect the dedicated commitment of the teachers. These results mean that our pupils will read their chosen courses at prominent universities."

"Each year up to 45% of school leavers take up places at Oxbridge and Russell Group or equally selective institutions (such as Durham, York or St Andrews). At these prestigious universities, our pupils read for a full range of courses - from Medicine and Law to Science and the Humanities. Music and Performing Arts are equally strong with leavers going on to attend top music conservatoires and performing arts academies."

"I heartily congratulate the 2009 leavers on their excellent successes and wish them every success in their chosen careers."

“Most pupils will now continue on to study for their A levels and with a group of students of this calibre I am sure they will all do very well. For the first time some of these pupils will be taking the challenging AQA Baccalaureate which we are introducing to augment to our A level programme in September.”

Please note that Government performance tables do not include IGCSE. In common with many other independent schools, St Edmund's pupils now take IGCSE Mathematics and, therefore, there will be a discrepancy in the figures quoted in different tables. Independent schools are also now excluded from value-added tables in which St Edmund's performs exceptionally well.
