The Senior School Library

The Senior School library at St Edmund's is a well-equipped resource, with over 12,000 titles on our shelves, as well as a wide range of English and foreign language magazines and periodicals. We have a broad selection of fiction to please all readers, from the more reluctant to the passionate, and our DVD and video collection consists of over 400 titles, from Shakespearean tragedies to Hollywood blockbusters. Alongside the older established subject areas, we have invested heavily in the newer ones, with, for example, Psychology, Photography and Film Studies being constantly built-up.

We aim to create a welcoming atmosphere in the library, as well as ensuring that it is a working environment. Pupils can choose individual workstations (or carrels), or share double tables; a separate 'lounge' area provides a more relaxed context in which to read one of the newspapers we stock. Six computers offer online access, and we are also Wi-Fi enabled for those wishing to use their own laptops within the library.

We have our own database of titles which is easily searchable by our users, and we also offer the special feature of a separate section containing the most popular fiction titles, as well as those on subject reading lists, for those users who do not wish to browse the main shelves. However, our users can also enjoy the assistance both of the Librarian, and also of the team of sixth form monitors. The library is staffed between 8.30 am and 5.00 pm, and is open between 8.30 am and 10.30 pm.
