The U15B XI hosted Ashford School on a glorious (finally this term) sunny afternoon yesterday. After losing the toss, St. Edmund's were put into bat and were quickly in trouble after a superb spell from the Ashford opening bowler. Some ‘stalwart’ batting, coupled with some aggressive hitting from the middle order pair of James Pooley and Brindley Kinch, gave some respectability to the scoreline as St. Edmund's posted 88 from their 20 overs. ...Lower Sixth Extended Project Training
Senior School
Date: Tuesday 26 June 2012
The lower sixth students undertaking and Extended Project Qualification spent two days at the University of Kent to attend seminars and carry out research. Seminars on action planning, Gannt charts, research methods, referencing and the formulation of research questions set the students up to plan their individual projects. The afternoons were spent carrying out a literature review of their topics in the Templeman Library and designing their plans of attack. All of the students are now "good to go" and are well on track to complete an excellent project. Thanks go to the excellent UKC staff who delivered the seminars and helped each student. Topics being researched include EU and US law on GM crops, the production of a film score, growth rates of fish, perception in the blind, bass guitar design, punishment in the UK, economic development in Kenya, psychological techniques in the courtroom and the alternative music in the '90s...St Edmund's in the Iron Age!

We headed for the Isle of Wight on Friday morning and, after a ferry ride and lunch, embarked on a comparison of the invertebrate communities of three ponds using the Simpson's Index of Biodiversity. Saturday morning saw a comparison of wall epiphytes and a Qualitative practical exam, followed by a saltmarsh transect and a woodland walk. The evening brought mud analysis and graph drawing. Sunday was spent learning and applying statistical tests in relation to individual investigations on a rocky shore, and a Quantitative exam. Monday morning saw an Evaluative exam and we headed for home, tired but happy...If you go down to the woods today...
