Ladybirds visit Whitstable Fire Station
The Ladybirds visited Whitstable Fire Station today to explore safety colours to extend their topic work. The class spent last week investigating colours that can help to keep us safe and were thrilled to see all the bright coloured emergency equipment that the firefighters use.
Firefighter Waymont started the tour by showing the children how the firefighters are informed about a fire, using the emergency bell and pagers. He then showed the children all the different vehicles that are at the station. The children were amazed to see a boat! Firefighter Waymont and Firefighter Yates showed the children how quickly they could jump into their uniform before giving them a great tour of the fire engine. Walkie talkies were used with great gusto and firefighter Bourne even allowed the children to take the wheel in the front of the fire engine, much to the children’s delight! The highlight for all the children was using the extension hose to try and spray Mrs Nolan!
Firefighter Hills then showed the children the inshore rescue boat used to provide support when rescuing animals from water, before we were given a guided tour of the fire station where the children enjoyed their snack.
What a fabulous way to find out more about colours that can keep us safe! Thank you to Whitstable Fire Station for providing us with such a fabulous visit.
