The Junior and Senior School Michaelmas Concert showcased a very wide display of talent on Friday evening. The East Kent Children’s Orchestra opened with two confidently performed items, Fantasie Rondo and Largo from the New World Symphony. Ami Watters from Form 4 added elegance and a little sparkle with her Valse Etude piano solo by Gillock. This was followed by a piece composed by parent Philip Bedford and performed by the Handbells to get us into the Christmas spirit.
Choral items were a key feature of the concert; both Junior Choirs, Chapel Choir and the Chamber Choir provided beautifully contrasting and well-crafted performances. Former pupil, Tom Platts, also directed his newly formed eight part A Cappella vocal ensemble. The String Quintet provided an intimate contrast with Salut D’Amour and the Largo from Winter by Vivaldi. Other large ensembles included the Symphony Orchestra with their vibrant account of the Oriental Festival March from Aladdin by Nielsen, the Senior Strings and Big Band with their energetic finale to the concert.
