St Edmund's Society President's Annual Dinner
Date: Sunday 18 November 2007
Late November has become the traditional time of the year for the St Edmund's Society President's Annual Dinner, to which are invited all the former pupils of the School who are members of the Society.
The President for 2007, Michael Green, as a Canterbury-based man, opted to hold the dinner in Canterbury, and after several years of enjoying the hospitality of Imperial College, London, 70 or so guests were entertained regally at the Cathedral's International Study Centre.
Old Boys and Old Girls - covering probably the last six decades of the 20th Century - were joined by the current Headmaster, Deputy Headmaster and the School Captain and Vice-Captain for 2007-08 - not to mention wives, partners and former members of staff.
An excellent evening was had by all, with old memories rekindled, stories shared, and a real feeling of St Edmund's cameraderie. Mike Green himself deputised for Shaun Barrett in proposing a toast to the School; Jeremy Gladwin responded on behalf of the School, and proposed the health of the Society.
Two significant items of interest for all: the Society President for 2008 will be Karen Milburn (nee Stringer) - the first Old Girl to be awarded this singular honour; and, 2008 will be the 25th anniversary of the arrival of the first girls at St Edmund's. Karen' s tenure of office could therefore be no better timed.
No doubt she, and the committee, will think up some good ways of celebrating the anniversary!
