Thursday Sport - The Rough with the Smooth

Date: Thursday 22 November 2007

Four fixtures this Thursday afternoon, on the Squash courts, on the Football field, and on the Hockey pitch(es).

Dover College cancelled the 2nd XI football match - much to the chagrin of the SES side, hoping to build on their win against the Old Boys - but, sadly, beat the 1st XI 5 - 0, after being just one goal to the good at half-time. This was match which coach Robert Robinson had hoped to win, but....

The hockey fixtures against Sir Roger Manwood's School ended honours even, with the 1sts losing 1 - 3, with Charlotte Hawken scoring for SES. The 2nds gained some revenge with a 2 - 1 win, with goals from Natasha Hopper and Sophie Bacon.

A junior squash team played the first of its twice yearly matches against the prep school boys from Wellesley House, and won 8 - 0. Each of the SES players won 3 - 0, which was a record for this now long-standing fixture. We'll see what happens in the return match in the Lent Term, when former SES stalwart David Kefford takes up a teaching role at Wellesley!
