Geography Society - 21st November
Date: Friday 23 November 2007
The Secretary of the Geography Society, Darragh Hodnett, writes:
"On Wednesday 21st November, the Geography Society met for the second time this term and were entertained by presentations on Las Vegas and Iceland.
David Welham spoke about the sustainability of a settlement like Las Vegas, especially with regard to water availability. He painted a bleak picture for the future of the desert city, with its increasing population far outweighing its water supply, and schemes to find new water sources looking very expensive indeed.
After a break for refreshments, Graham Sabine and Ally McMaster spoke about their three-week adventure to Iceland this last summer. They used a wealth of resources, ranging from maps to inter-active videos, to great effect, leaving several members of the audience seriously considering visiting this amazing country in the nearer future!
Many thanks to all three speakers for a very informative and enjoyable evening."
It should be stressed that the audience forewent the pleasure of watching England go 0 - 2 down to Croatia in the first 14 minutes at Wembley. Perhaps the whole nation would have been happier in the Drawing Room!
