Date: Friday 30 November 2007
Mr Spencer Payne sent me the following review of the last lunchtime concert of this term:
Lunchtime Concert
Thursday 29th November, 2007
The final lunchtime recital for this term was given on Thursday 29th November and consisted of a varied assortment of pieces from pupils ranging from Junior School Form 8 to the Lower Sixth. Ana Vandepeer was first on the platform with a rendition of J C Bach’s (not father J S) Rondo from Sonata in F for piano duet, her duet partner was Mr Payne. Detailed playing was heard here in this attractive little piece. Ben Clarke from Lower Sixth followed, and he performed the slow movement from J S Bach’s Sonata in E minor for flute with delicacy and warmth.
It was pleasing to hear Ben Draper in his debut performance on electric guitar. Technical assurance was shown in some tricky passagework to the delight of the audience and his rendition of Joe Satriani’s always with me, always with you was well received. Yunha Hwang from JuniorSchool form 8 followed with a superb performance of the Concerto in G (1st movement) by Quantz. Her dazzling runs excited us all and kept the audience on the edge of their seats. The middle fifth year group were well represented, firstly by Fred White who played a Brahms Minuet & Trio on the cello with a full tone and good control. Secondly and finally, Francesca Dowle and Alex Abley rounded off the recital with Rossini’s famous Cat Duet, but with a difference. To the delight of the audience, this performance contained movement (limited), and a great deal of artistic licence to help everyone get back to work with a smile on their faces. Thanks go to all performers for entertaining us so well.
