Inter-House Cross Country 2011
Date: Wednesday 30 March 2011
On a beautiful Monday afternoon the Jackman Field and surrounding areas were filled with our four house colours as the second ‘whole school’ house event of the year took place. Virtually all of the senior school pupils and staff enjoyed the favourable conditions and endeavour on show as the four individual races set off in a staggered fashion.
First race to go was the junior girls and this was quickly followed by the two lap course of the senior boys. Conditions underfoot were perfect with the correct mix of firmness and muddy patches to be negotiated throughout. With four staff running amongst the pupils and many stewarding, a positive atmosphere was created all around the course but especially at the end with every pupil being cheered home by staff and pupils together. The next race off was junior boys and finally the senior girls.
Individual performances of note include Charlotte Austin who won the junior girls event in 17 minutes 49 seconds, Georgia Hunt who won the senior girls event in 16 minutes and 30 seconds, Chris Neighbour who won the junior boys race in 13 minutes and 40 seconds. The outstanding individual performance of the day was by Alistair Noel who won the senior boys race convincingly in a record time of 19 minutes and 45 seconds.
The House cups were shared between Watson House (2), Wagner House and Baker House but the most important aspect was the amount of people involved.
