History - Conference and Society
Date: Wednesday 5 December 2007
Lower Sixth historians had the opportunity to travel to London for a Sovereign History Conference, focusing on the key issues of AS Units 1 and 2, Russia in Revolution, and the Bolshevik consolidation of 'power'.
Four superb presentations from experts - Thatcher, Service, Read, and Ward - helped each of our beginners to a clearer understanding of the problems with which they will have to grapple in the very near future - the 1905 Revolution, February and October, and Lenin's role in October 1917 and the next seven years.
Chances to listen to experts, and real enthusiasts, in their own field are few and far between. This chance was much appreciated by the 13 students and one member of staff who braved the vagaries of the 'Tube' to find the City Temple!
This outing preceded the first meeting of the History Society, at which George Conyne, from the UKC, will be speaking about Anglo-American relations in the era of the Great War.
