Inter-House Maths Competition - Roper makes a strong start to the year!

Date: Thursday 6 October 2011

On Monday 26th September the Inter-House Mathematics Competition took place, first the Lower School (Forms 3-5) and then the Upper School (Forms 6-8) competitions. Each pupil was presented with an eight-minute maths challenge to complete on their own, answering short questions they would typically see in class.

Then the pupils worked as a team of three (one representative from each year group), working out together the answers to slightly more tricky questions. With 5 points for a correct answer this is really where the competition could be won or lost.

At the end of the Lower School competition Roper were clear leaders. However, Chaucer's Upper School team tackled the team questions incredibly well, answering correctly 9 out of 10 questions, having passed on just one question. This was definitely the performance of the afternoon.

However, consistency can also win the day and the final positions were as follows:

1st Roper, 2nd Becket, 3rd Chaucer and 4th Marlowe.

If all the inter-house competitions throughout the rest of year are anything like this maths competition, we are in for a great year! Everyone worked together and created a super atmosphere of friendly rivalry.
