Boarders in Blean Wood
Date: Wednesday 14 December 2011
Every Saturday morning different staff help with the boarders, giving them activity as varied as the staff themselves. Recently it was a pleasure to resurrect the Explorers' Club and introduce the boys and girls of School House to the joys of the Great Outdoors in local Blean Wood and surrounding fields. Afterwards both Mrs Lawrence and Mr Hooley remarked how easily the children of all ages (8 - 13 years old) got on together and how appreciative they were of the experience. The undertaking was a pleasure and everyone gained some useful knowledge - did you know, for instance, that you should climb a gate at the hinge end?
You can trace the exact route through this link to the Garmin website, which records the GPS data from the walk. You will need Adobe Flash Player installed to see the actual map on the webpage.

From a diary extract of the walk:
'Slow & muddy. Saw large red fly agaric mushrooms & enthusiasts photographing them - helped a 9-year old overcome her fear of stiles and high 5-bar gates - had some sprints with the Gurkha boys - dished out Mars bars & Tesco still water - got muddy - lost my hat - met veteran runner who'd just done the black route. The outing cost next to nothing plus a hat, but simple is best.'
