Upper School Inter-House Chess Competition

Date: Thursday 15 December 2011

This year saw the best inter-house competition in years. All the players, drawn from Forms 6, 7 and 8, arrived on time, set up their boards and started play without any prompting. There was a superb sense of enthusiasm and some titanic battles that pushed the player's logic to the edge.

As in previous years, 2 points were scored for winning by checkmate; and if after the time limit was reached there was no outright victor, the pieces left were analysed and the player with the strongest set of pieces was awarded 1 point.

After 18 matches across the three Upper School year groups the result was:

1st Becket (8 points)

Joint 2nd/3rd Chaucer and Roper (7 points)

4th Marlowe (6 points)

Well done to everyone who took part.
