Inter-House Football - The Last Tournament of the Term!
Date: Thursday 13 December 2007
The last Thursday of the term, and the chance to find out which of the Houses would win the last cup of the term to be decided. Watson and Warneford were already out of it, having lost at last week's semi-final stage; Baker and Wagner were the finalists, with many pundits predicting a close match with few goals.
This was not the case in the 3rd/4th place play off where 11 goals were shared by Watson, with 7, and Warneford netting 4. Matt Dixon scored all the Warneford goals, from various distances! Watson's goals were probably scored by Zhi heng (2), Oli Perry (3), Dom Morgan, and Harry Callaway (o.g.).
The final was a scrappy affair, with neither side creating a real chance in the first half, although MacMaster in the Wagner goal was the busier, fielding overhit through balls. The second period saw play open up far more, with Barwick and Easter seemingly controlling the game for Baker. Wagner then managed to launch some dangerous attacks. Gus Alder nodded two off the line, before Max Kirkness struck from 25 yards, leaving Hodnett helpless. A second Kirkness drive then took a wicked deflection, and left Wagner in a winning position: 2 - 0.
In fairness, Baker never made a real chance in 60 minutes. Nor did Wagner, until Kirkness's matchwinners.
And then there will be Hockey and Netball!
