Year of the Dragon!

Date: Wednesday 25 January 2012

It was the Chinese New Year and the Crickets celebrated in style!

We have been finding out about dragons and we decided to make our own Chinese Dragon and perform a Dragon Dance!

Making the dragon required lots of team work!

While the dragon was drying we listened to the story "The Great Race", a traditional Chinese tale in which the animals race to earn a position in the Chinese Zodiac.

We made animal masks and acted out the story! It was great fun!

We wrote the story in our own words, this was written by Zoe Rogers:

"A long long time ago there was a Emperor called Jade. He did not know how old he was so he called the animals because he was going to have a race. The rat was first, the ox was second then the other animals got to the finish. The Emperor called each year after the animals. This is the year of the dragon."

We then had a magnificant parade around the school. We drew quite a crowd! "I liked it when everyone stopped and watched us!" said Grace.

Back in the classroom we had a Chinese Banquet! After a quick lesson on how to use chopsticks we feasted on prawn crackers...
