Charity begins - in House!
Date: Tuesday 5 February 2008
At the start of the Michaelmas Term, the Chaplain, and the Charity Committee set each house the challenge of turning a £20 note into as much money as possible in the space of one term. The Parable of the Talents in practice!
No House buried its £20 note for safekeeping, and all together produced over £1400 for the term's charities - Martha House, and a South African children's charity.
Though it was not an Inter-House competition, each displayed immense ingenuity and imagination to produce this amazing multiplication. Baker's sum amounted to £537.22, thanks largely to the bravery of four boys undertaking a sponsored plunge into the waters of Whitstable Harbour; Wagner amassed £260.00, with a boot fair, and a sponsored leg-wax - thanks, Sam Vile and Ben Hopper; Warneford, with an 'own clothes' day, car washing and a cake sale came up with £224.70; Watson, sticking to the letter of the law and accepting no donations after the closing date of December 19th, garnered £501.31, employing the tactics of a boot fair, car washing, and parental donations.
This was, overall, a fantastic achievement - so thanks to the hard work of every pupil, and every Housemaster.
