Netball and Hockey
Date: Thursday 28 February 2008
A Thursday games' afternoon, and a series of fixtures for the senior Hockey and Netball sides, and, after School, rearranged matches for the juniors against Kent College.
The 1st XI played an excellent first half against King's Rochester up at the UKC Astro, and, with goals from Oli Perry and Ben Easter, went in at the interval 2 - 0 up. When I got back half an hour later, King's were celebrating what proved to be a third and winning goal. Despite immense last minute pressure, and a couple of clear cut chances, King's hung on, and left the SES boys deflated. There will be a chance for revenge in next week's Frank Mason Tournament, when King's are drawn in our group.
The Netball VIIs had better fortune against Sir Roger Manwood's School. The 2nd VII won 29 - 13, with Lucinda Summerfield earning the 'man of the match' award, and Jo Macdonald - captain for the day - and Jess Swallow shooting well. The 1sts, despite a wobble in the 3rd quarter, ended up as 30 - 18 winners, with Susannah Benham, on her debut, defending effectively. At the other end Annalisa Flood and Sam Catford took enough of their chances to ensure, eventually, a comfortable win.
The less good news is that all the other Hockey matches also ended in defeats. The Pilgrims came back from Rochester with a 1 - 2 scoreline - our goalscorer was Dominic Morgan; the Under 14s came back from the UKC Astro, having lost 1 - 4 to Kent College - Oscar Jackson netting our consolation goal; and, the Under 15s came back from the KC Astro on the wrong end of a 1 - 3 loss - goalscorer, James Attwood. Again, the Under 15s have chance of some revenge next week with the Firminger Tournament for Kent Schools.
