Netball - Duke of York's RMS

Date: Saturday 1 March 2008

No Hockey matches for the boys, but a block of four fixtures for the girls against the Duke Of York's RMS from Dover.

The girls from Dover had the better of the afternoon with convincing wins at Under 14 and 1st VII levels, while the 2nds' match was won by St Edmund's, and the Under 15s could have gone either way before DoYs won it in the final quarter.

The Under 14s - depleted again by injury and a touch of 'Saturdayafternoonitis' - fought their hardest and went down 5 - 15 on a windy outside court. The Under 15s lost by a very narrow margin 14 - 16, with some excellent teamwork and fighting spirit. The 2nds controlled their game from the first quarter, winning eventually by 23 - 13. 'Men of the Match' were the midfield trio of McNie, Summerfield and Charlotte Pack.

The 1sts also scored 23, but the DoYs girls more than doubled that finishing on 48! The more physical, and sharper opposition scored freely - their GA scarcely missed a shot all afternoon - and the absence of Arabella Pemberton meant that a rejigged St Ed'd squad was always playing 'catch-up' without one of their recognised strikers. Not easy! But all credit for a fighting performance in which they saved their best for the final quarter.
