Basketball Begins!

Date: Wednesday 19 September 2007

This term is the one where St Edmund's plays a long 'test series' of Basketball matches against teams from Canterbury High School, at both senior and junior level.

Today's first fixture pitted the new SES squad against an experienced  set of players from Knights Avenue, and not surprisingly our visitors shaded a close match by just 39 points to 30.

Playing an untested man-for-man defensive system, the School were narrowly ahead at half-time, but the High coach brought on his strongest 'five' for the second period, and won control of the court, and the result.

Arnie Dunning was outstanding for the SES boys, and the whole bench got a good work out. Congratulations to Ben Easter, using height and strength to good effect at both ends of the court, and scoring!

Yes, we may well miss the skills of Kevin Lee, Denny Chan and Amadou Ainscough, but it is good to see competitve basketball being played again at the School.
