Tuesday Sport - Dover College and Simon Langton GS

Date: Tuesday 11 March 2008

The last inter-School block fixtures of this Lent season pitted our Junior Girls' Netball teams against Dover College, and the Junior Boys' Hockey squads against the Langton boys.

The Under 15 Hockey team came up against a very powerful Langton side, and struggled in the first half to go in 1 - 4 adrift. The second period was different, and we managed to draw it 2 - 2, leaving the final deficit being 3 - 6. This, incidentally, was the Langton's highest 'goals conceded' tally of the term, apart from their match agaionst Langley Park. Coach Leigh Millard singled out our captain Jonathan Clarke for particular praise on an afternoon when he covered every blade of the astroturf pitch!

The girls who went to Dover finished their season on a high with two convincing wins. The Under 15s won 23 - 11 to record a welcome victory, and the Under 14s made it two out of two - after their win at St Lawrence last Saturday - with a 15 - 1 shut out (almost!).

The Under 14 Hockey boys, playing at Polo Farm, came home with a heavy defeat at the hands of 'the best side they had played all season'. Ex-SES junior Richard Walters represented an opposition who totted up eight goals. Our consolation score came from Oscar Jackson, as we played some good hockey, but could not match the striking power of the Grammar School boys.
