Squash Racquets: 1st VI v King's Canterbury
Date: Friday 14 March 2008
This year's Squash Racquets' squad has been one of the strongest in the School's history, and it has been almost a tragedy that they have not had many chances to play against other school sides in the course of two terms. One victory in the Michaelmas Term over St Lawrence College was the only result to record until today, when a 1st VI went down to the King's School courts in Canterbury.
What is even better to report is that they came back up the hill with a 5 - 1 victory, justifiably proud of the achievement under their coach, Ian Narburgh, whose reaction to success was 'indescribable' said captain Thomas Hulme!
Middle Fifth Henry Withrington led the way at No.1 with a 3 - 1 win - a result equalled by Hulme himself and David Welham, and bettered by Arnie Dunning with a 3 - 0 win at No.6. the other winner on the day was Greg Moulsdale who fought his way to a 3 - 2 win at No.3. The only setback of the afternoon was Max Kirkness's 0 - 3 loss at No.4.
Four of the team are leavers; what better way to end their playing careers than a win over King's!!
