Lower School Arts Week: Part Three
Date: Saturday 22 March 2008

To round off the busy 'Build a Castle' theme week, some entertainment was called for - intensely instructional and endlessly educational though it was. On the last day everyone dressed up in mediaeval costume - very convincingly, as it happened. The three Lower School year groups (Forms 3 - 5) converged on Mrs Richardson's classroom to meet Sharon from the Hawklands Bird of Prey Centre and to hear her give a talk on falconry. They saw three magnificent owls and learnt how, for instance, the cute-looking tufted 'ears' on the owls' heads are in fact just for show. The real ears are positioned in a lopsided way at the side and bottom of the face. The owls' interesting digestive habits were explained (and demonstrated...) too!

In the picture above you can see Sharon and Estelle with Bilbo, a real eye-catcher of a European Eagle Owl. He was the children's favourite and everyone had a chance to stroke him after the talk. Look carefully and you will also see him with Sharon and all the children in the top picture.

To mark the occasion we took a photograph of all Lower School grouped round their climbing frame and couldn't resist also taking a picture of these homely serving wenches at the Cake Sale. But where are the cakes? Sold out in seconds...
