Hockey v King's Rochester
Date: Thursday 20 September 2007
Senior Hockey matches against King's School, Rochester took place this afternoon, with the 1st XI playing at home, and the 2nds travelling up the M2 to the Medway.
The 1sts were always under pressure from an experienced side, blessed with powerful strikers, and conceded two goals in each half to go down 0 - 4. Margot Chatenay, on her debut in goal deputising for the absent Annalisa Flood, played bravely, and did her best to stem the tide.
The defence throughout worked hard, and up front several short corners were won, but sadly none was converted. The whole squad of 14 players got a chance to impress coach John Maylam, who remains sanguine about improving performance and results as the season progresses. Experience with Canterbury HC will certainly help to bring on the juniors like Arabella Pemberton.
The 2nds, however, took more than revenge at Rochester. A final score of 9 - 0 reflected a dominant performance in which the goals were shared between a number of players. Perhaps the 1sts should be looking at the reserve squad to see if their strikers deserve promotion to the upper echelons!
