Roger Barnes
Date: Wednesday 16 April 2008
Many of you will already have heard of the sad death of Roger Barnes, former Head of Science at St Edmund's, a man who was compelled to retire from the teaching profession three years ago through ill-health.
I have been asked to advise those of you who may wish to pay tribute to Roger that, after a private family funeral service on Monday of next week, April 21st, you will be very welcome, on the same afternoon, to attend a service of thanksgiving for Roger's life in the Quire of Canterbury Cathedral. This service will take place at 3.00pm - and there is a clear instruction from the family that, as this is a service of celebration, 'people should not wear black'.
If you are unable to attend this service, there will be a school-based remembrance of Roger, probably in the early afternoon of Tuesday June 3rd, immediately after the School's half-term break. This will be confirmed in due course.
Should you wish to make a donation in Roger's memory, a cheque made payable to the Pilgrim's Hospice should be sent to the Funeral Directors - A Welch and Sons, Heritage House, 3-4 The Burgate, Canterbury, CT1 2HG.
