Jacob Barnes and Susannah Jackson

Date: Sunday 23 September 2007

If you read the Kentish Gazette, you will have discovered the two articles which refer to the imminent musical events which both have a major St Edmund's content.

On Sunday 23rd September - today! - Jacob Barnes, along with his musical partner Tom Hancox, will be launching a series of autumn recitals to be held at Goodnestone Park, near Wingham. Jacob's credentials are well known, but are worth reiterating: a St Edmund's music scholar, and a scholar with the Royal Academy of Music, he has won many prestigious music prizes, not least the Conductor's Prize at the Marlowe Young Musician of the Year in 2005. His programme on Sunday will include works by Bach, Poulenc, and Piazzolla.

The mention of the Marlowe competition brings me to Suzy Jackson, who this year is one of the six finalists vying for the title of Young Musician of the Year. Suzy joined St Edmund's just a year ago as an excellent 'summer signing', proving her value both in the classroom, and in the wider musical world. She will be performing, with the Kent Concert Orchestra, Vivaldi's Flute Concerto in G Minor. No doubt the Marlowe will be filled on Tuesday October 2nd, as the six youngsters go head-to-head for the title. Suzy deserves our support - tickets are available from the Marlowe Box Office, at prices ranging from £9.50 to £13.50.
