Flannelled Fools

Date: Wednesday 30 April 2008

Tuesday April 29th - a day of heavy rain, followed by heavy showers, followed by persistent heavy drizzle. The Under 15 cup game against Walmer was off; the girls' Tennis fixtures against Dover College were off; but the Under 14s soldiered on, and completed a victory by 5 runs over Dane Court G.S. as the rain continued to fall.

In a 25-over game, SES batted first and managed a total of 93 all out. Three men reached double figures - Naseem (13), Thomas (15), and Barnard (19). Extras, with 21, were the top scorers. Naseem will remember the game: he missed the first delivery sent down by MISS Mount, and was bowled!

In reply, if the drenched scorebook is to be believed, Dane Court got up to 88 for 6, falling therefore six runs short of the target. SES were indebted to Callum Stokes-Newens, who took 4 - 16 in his allotted five overs.

Thanks too to Mr Middleton, his fellow umpire, and to all the players who clearly went well beyond the call of duty.

In theory, the 1st XI will play a team from Hayes on Thursday in the Kent Under 19 cup. The venue has yet to be confirmed - but it may be a 30-over game, played here at the School.
