Exeat Over - Back to Business!
Date: Tuesday 6 May 2008
After the extended exeat weekend, incorporating the Bank Holiday Monday, Tuesday came with a vengeance with a mass of fixtures, internal and external!
The ever popular Inter-House Rounders Competition was blessed with a glorious summer afternoon, and Wagner took full advantage of excellent hitting by Charlotte Johnson, and aggressive Jo Macdonald bowling, to record three wins and win the trophy. Baker came in second with three points, Watson 3rd with 2, and Warneford brought up the rear with just one draw in three matches.
Kent College were expected to bring three pairs of senior boys tennis players over to our courts, but they brought just the two, leaving our 1st and 3rd pairs with just one rubber to play. It finished 2 - 2 in the end, to the frustration of most concerned. The SES points were won by Callaway and Lai, and Dixon and M.Kirkness.
The Under 15 cricketers enjoyed the sun on their backs in a 25-over game, which saw the SES boys romp home by 114 runs. Two half-centuries from Stone (56) and Attwood (60) got us off to an excellent start, and we finished on 215 - 7. The St Lawrence innings was wrecked by a fiery spell from Kemp who took 4 - 7 in his four over stint. St Lawrence reached 101 all out - the first time they had reached this milestone, apparently - before Rawlins, with 3 - 8, and Withrington, 2 - 20 wrapped up the tail.
The Under 14s travelled to Ramsgate, and their fate is still on the minibus in Mr Middleton's scorebook! They did, however, win again in what was a very low-scoring affair. A combination of poor batting, an 'iffy' wicket, and some useful bowling meant that SES were 68 all out, having been at one stage 54 - 1. Barrett scored 22, Mr Extras 18, and Jackson 15, with the middle order collapsing to the redoubtable Gillen who took 5 - 5, all five wickets in the space of six balls! St Lawrence fared even worse, finishing on 43 all out, with Barrett (4 - 5), Thomas (3 - 14), and Naseem (2 - 7) ensuring the 'away win'.
