20/20 Cricket v King's Canterbury

Date: Thursday 15 May 2008

Both the 1st and 2nd XIs visited King's School last evening to play two 20/20 matches against well-drilled and tightly disciplined sides.

The 2nd XI match was a high scoring affair with King's totalling 172 - 8, with West taking 2 - 25 in his four overs, and Benson 3 - 35. In reply SES reached 121 - 6, with Callum Morgan (31) and West (26) doing best with the bat.

Consistent batting down the order allowed the King's 1st XI to get to 156 - 5 in 20 overs. The wickets were shared between five bowlers, but economy iis the key to this form of cricket, and King's were best contained by Easter and Callaway, who each went for fewer than a run a ball. In reply, five batsmen reached double figures, but no one went on to build a match-winning innings. David van Rooyen, in his first match of the season, top scored with 18 - and hopefully regained his appetite for the game! Final score - 89 all out in the 19th over.

On Saturday the 1st XI takes on the might of the Old Boys XI; 2nds, U15s, and U14s are pitted against sides from Cranbrook.
