Having been living at school in temporary accommodation since September 2006, the choristers returned to their home in the Cathedral Precincts at the start of this term. Not only was it great to be back in Choir House but the boys were also welcomed back to the Precincts as important members of the Cathedral Foundation.

The choristers returned to a magnificently refurbished Choir House. The ancient fabric of the medieval and later building has been beautifully restored and the two new wings have been most sensitively designed and built. The architects have made the very best use of the building’s special and historic features and the quality of craftsmanship in the builders’ work is wonderful.

The Choir House community – boys, parents and staff - were formally welcomed back and the building was blessed and officially declared open by the Archbishop of Canterbury on April 27. There were over a hundred guests at the ceremony after Evensong. The choristers sang two short pieces before proudly taking their guests on tours of the building, which provides outstanding accommodation for the 28 boys. Surely this must be one of the most exciting, historic and well-presented boarding houses in the country!
