Julia Gawecka - Lower Fifth

Date: Monday 19 May 2008

Headmaster's Lines are wonderful opportunities to offer public recognition of the achievements of individual pupils both in, and out, of the immediate School context. Such it was this morning when, thanks to the inside knowledge of Dr Braddy, the Housemaster of Warneford House, I was able to shake the hand of Julia Gawecka in recognition of her recent exploits in the world of Fencing.

Fencing is coached at St Edmund's - thanks to Steve Lund of the D and T Department, bur Julia's achievements go far beyond what we can offer. For the last four weekends she has been travelling the length and breadth of the country taking part in the National 'Lee and Paul' Fencing Series. Tournaments have been held in Durham, Coventry, Thamesside, and Camden.

The most recent event was her least successful, but for the first three weeks she had moved from bronze medal, to silver medal, to gold medal performances. This is a wonderful set of results - so, Julia, very well done, and good luck in all your future competitions!
