Kent Cup Cricket

Date: Friday 30 May 2008

For the first time in many a season, St Edmund's entered a side in the Kent Under-19 Cup - the Lemon Cup - and managed to move into the third round thanks to a walkover against Hayes, and, on the Friday before half-term, a win over Sir Joseph Williamson's School from Rochester.

SES won by 32 runs, and now await with anticipation the draw for Round Three. Batting first, in a 30-over game, SES reached 150, thanks to an anchoring innings of 57* from skipper Easter, 35 from Ben Clarke, and a flurry at the end from Harry Callaway.

This proved beyond the opposition, once Clarke removed their better players in his opening spell of 2 - 16. Easter bowled equally tightly and also took 2 - 16 in his six overs. David van Rooyen was entrusted with the ball - about time, some would say - and he took 2 - 5 in his one over of pace and aggression.

All in all a solid performance, which could have been even more convincing if many of the opposition mishits had gone to hand. Field placings need to be considered very carefully in limited overs' cricket.
