The last Thursday before Half Term was busy, musical, and festive.

Junior School pupils of all ages performed a variety of music for the annual music festival, competing in classes throughout the school day - open, composition, piano, strings, woodwind, and singing - both sacred and secular. The musicians who were awarded first place went on to perform their pieces in front of an audience of parents and staff in the evening winners' concert in the School Hall. In addition to the individual pieces there were ensembles directed and conducted by Mr Wassell, Mrs Wassell, Mr Payne and Dr Braddy. We were privileged to welcome Dr Michael Robertson, the Director of Music at Marlborough House School, as adjudicator for all the classes and to award certificates to the winners at the concert.

Dr Flood conducted the Choristers of Canterbury Cathedral (educated here at St Edmund's) as they sang 'This little babe / Deo Gratias' and 'This little light of mine'. The Choristers performed a number of instrumental pieces in addition to singing.

A long and tiring day for all the participants: classes started at 9.15am and it was after 9.15pm when the concert came to a conclusion. Director of Music, Chris McDade, and Robert Bacon, Master of the Junior School, thanked the young musicians and everybody who supported them, both staff and parents.

And finally... after a full and enjoyable programme, it was time for bed!
