Appointment of Chaplain
Date: Monday 2 June 2008
The Headmaster writes:
I am delighted to be able to announce the appointment of the Revd Dr Ian Terry as Chaplain of St Edmund's School with effect from September 2008.
Dr Terry was educated at St John's College, University of Durham, and completed his PGCE at St John's College, York. He also gained an MA and a PhD from St Mary's College, Twickenham. He taught for a number of years before being ordained deacon in 1980 and priest in 1981. He has previously been School Chaplain and Head of Religious Studies at Elizabeth College, Guernsey, and at St John's School, Leatherhead. He was Rector of Bisley and West End in Surrey for ten years, during which time he was a primary school governor, and an assistant prison chaplain. Since 2002 he has been the Director of Education for the Diocese of Hereford.
Dr Terry is married to Lucinda, and they have four children aged 13, 15, 17, and 19 years. Their youngest daughter, Natalie, will join the Lower Fifth at St Edmund's in September.
Dr Terry will be my eighth chaplain at St Edmund's, following in the footsteps of Christopher Gill, Michael de Brisay, Ivan Turkington, Roger Royle, Roger Ellis, Ronald Hawkes, and Melanie Horton. We all wish him, and his family, much happiness in Canterbury.
