Encore 2008
Date: Monday 2 June 2008
Eighteen years of school drama performed by a large cast of pupils past and present for one night only. Impossible, you might say. But on Monday 30th June 2008 at St Edmund's School Canterbury, 'Encore' becomes a reality when the cast takes to the stage. For Richard Parsons, Director of Drama at the School, 'Encore' not only recreates memorable moments from a diverse back catalogue of shows, but is also his swansong. For Richard leaves the School for Plymouth at the end of the summer term of 2008.
The one night performance hopes to relive extracts from 'The Boyfriend' (1991), 'The Mikado' (1994), 'Godspell' (1996), 'Grease' (1999), 'Pippin' (2004), 'Return to the Forbidden Planet' (2005), and 'Godspell' (2006). From a full cast performance of 'Dancing at the High School Hop' from 'Grease' to the finale performance of 'Morning Glow' from 'Pippin' with the unforgettable James Murrum as the lead, the school theatre will be alive to the faces and voices of yesteryear.
Geoff Bailey and Emma Gifford look set to take to the stage to reprise their version of 'Won't You Charleston with Me' from 'The Boyfriend', and 'Godspell' (1996) hopes to include Russell English and Tom Elvy to reprise 'All For the Best'. Following a professional engagement in 'Buddy' in the West End, Greg Last will be back performing extracts from 'Grease'. Around these reprises, shorter interludes, - some taken from A Level practical examinations - will entertain the audience, including 'What a Wonderful World' (2007), and 'Zigger Zagger' (2008).
'Encore' has a serious side as a fundraiser in aid of drama at St Edmund's. Guests will be welcomed at a champagne reception before the performance, and will enjoy a buffet during the interval. Guests will also be invited to meet the cast after the show. Tickets for this one night only performance are £50 each. We hope you will be able to join us to celebrate 18 years of innovative drama at the School under the direction of Richard Parsons.
