Literary Society
Date: Wednesday 26 September 2007
A very welcome feature of the St Edmund's year are the regular meetings of academic societies, designed to bring together and 'extend' Sixth Form pupils.
The first meeting of the Literary Society took place on Tuesday evening, and a small group of enthusiasts - numbers were limited by clashes of interest - thoroughly enjoyed an introduction to'Romantic Moments in Literature', selected by Head of Department, Jon Dagley.
Highlights were the readings from the contrasting marriage proposals, and the responses thereto, in 'Pride and Prejudice' and 'Jane Eyre'. Mr Collins and Mr Rochester met with very different reactions from their would-be spouses!
It may be autumn, rather than spring, but with poetry from Catullus to Lennon and McCartney all our fancies 'did lightly turn to thoughts of love'.
