KSTA Championships - 2008
Date: Friday 13 June 2008
Friday June 13th was the day when the KSTA (Under 15) Championsips took place at Bromley Tennis Centre. St Edmund's entered two pairs: Alicia Hager and Sofia Williams, and Georgia Gurney and Jennifer Wheal.
There were 38 pairs from 24 schools involved, and in the morning's 'round robin' element Hager and Williams won two and lost three of their five sets to qualify for the afternoon's plate competition. There they reached the last eight, but were beaten at this quarter-final stage by a pair from Walthamstow, whom they could, and should have beaten. A couple of mistakes cost us the deciding game.
The second pair fared better, winning four out of five morning matches, losing only to Langley Park's 1st pair. As second in their group, Gurney and Wheal went through to the last 16 of the main competition, where they lost out to the Langley Park 2nd pair!
Mrs Wilkinson comments that the standard of play at this tournament is very high indeed, so 'well done on an excellent day of tennis to all four girls'.
