Basketball and Football

Date: Wednesday 26 September 2007

Today was the day of Round Two of the SES v Canterbury High Basketball season, and also the day of Round One of the ISFA Cup, in which SES was drawn away to the City of London School.

The Basketball went very much as last week's match, with Canterbury High edging it, on this occasion by 34 points to 29. We were missing Ben Easter, on soccer duty with the Firsts, but another good performance from Arnie Dunning, with support from Matthew Hsieh, kept us well in the game almost to the end.

The Under 14s won their cup tie at Ardingly earlier in the term, against most expectations, but the Firsts were not so lucky after yet another trek up the M2 to South London. We could have taken an early lead, but were 0 - 2 down by the interval, after which further goals followed, leaving the City of London School moving into the next round 7 - 0. This had been a very tough draw: an away tie against a school of 850 or more boys. No selection problems there!

Fortunately, no more injuries were suffered ahead of a home fixture with Ardingly on Saturday.
