Old Girls, Old Boys - Society Sport
Date: Monday 15 September 2008
One of the areas in which there is regular interaction between the School and the St Edmund's Society is on the sports' field. Yesterday evening the current School 1st XIs played the Old Boys (football) and the Old Girls (hockey), and scored comfortable victories on the UKC Astro and the Jackman Field.
The Old Boys assembled a strong and young squad under new Sports' Secretary Nick Oehring, but the 1sts, fresh from their win on Saturday, came out on top by a 4 - 1 margin, in which the goals were shared between Attwood, Ransley, Williams, and Callum Morgan, on his debut. The Old Boys' reply was from Oehring himself. Two consecutive wins, and an increasingly confident performance from Ransley's side bodes well for the season ahead, and the Charterhouse challenge on Saturday.
The Old Girls also put out a young and competitive XI, but missed Dina Ayoub, now in Holland, and had no goalkeeper with the experience of Lucy Bukht. They scored two, through Sophie Bacon and Nicki Ridley, but the 1sts, with Emma Wink showing the way to goal with 4, won 7 - 2. The other goals came from Natasha Hopper and Georgia Gurney - who may have scored two! So, a first win for the 1sts, who now take on King's Rochester at home on Thursday.
