Society Life - Literary Society 2008/09

Date: Tuesday 23 September 2008

The Senior School's Literary Society met for the first time this academic year yesterday evening when the group members met inthe Drawing Room to share favourite readings with their peers and teachers.

This is Mr Dagley's brief review of his event:

‘The first Literary Society of the year was an enjoyable informal event touching on a range of texts from Plato though to James Brown’s Sixties lyrics on the dangers of addiction – visiting the Gawain poet, hagiography on Thomas Becket of Canterbury, Kipling and Craig Raine. L6 and U6 attended including some newcomers as well as Messrs Dagley, Narburgh and Brewer and Mrs Robinson. A combination of analysis and discussion with occasional trips down Memory Lane made for a convivial and stimulating evening.’

Thank you, Jon, for your comments. I look forward to reports on further society events in the course of the year.
