Hockey Results - September 30th

Date: Monday 29 September 2008

An extra fixture was slotted in to the list on Monday 29th when the SES 2nd XI entertained an XI from QEGS in Faversham at the UKC Astro. Coach Christine George, so upbeat after last week's efforts, was rather more subdued in response to a performance which she described as 'awful'. The QEGS girls were 'fired up' and we were so slow to react that we were 0 - 2 down at half time, and it had taken the bravery of goalie Margot Chatenay to keep us in contention. Captain Susannah Benham and Holly Richards worked hard in midfield, but apart from a couple of short corners, we offered little threat in front of goal. The second period was goalless - so it could have been worse!

This afternoon, the second semi-final of the girls' Inter-House competition was played, with Warneford taking on Baker for the right to play Wagner in Thursday's rearranged final. Warneford won, comfortably, by 3 goals to nil, with Georgia Gurney (2) and Sofia Williams getting on the scoresheet. But for the bravery of Grace Johnson in the Baker goal, the tally would have been far higher. In short, Warneford, on the first day of autumn, dominated the match - to such an extent that Warneford goalkeeper Margot Chatenay kept herself entertained by singing to/with fellow defender Laura Patterson!

Sadly, the Under 15 match against King's Rochester had to be postponed - only nine fit players available to the opposition. Tomorrow, the 1st XI squad competes in the County Under-18 tournament. Our group fixtures are at the King's School ground, Birley's, from early in the day - 9.00am-ish.
