Football matches against Dover College are always feisty affairs, and today the 2nd XI came away with a 1 - 1 draw against a strong opposition side in what was a tough physical contest. DC went one up early on, but SES fought back to dominate the first half. An equaliser from Nick Al Shaikh evened things up, but SES were hanging on at the end, playing into the teeth of a freshening gale, and struggling to get the ball out of their own half.
The Under 15s controlled their game, and could have won far more comfortably than the final 2 - 0 scoreline. The wind did not help the flow of the game, and overhit through balls were easy meat for the Dover defenders. Their goalkeeper played a blinder, and it took something special to get past him. A hatful of chances was squandered, and it took two quality strikes from Shohei Sekiguchi in the first half, and a drive from the edge of the box from Oli Kirkness late on to secure the 'three points'. Stuart Abbott in the SES goal touched the ball twice in 70 minutes, such was the control imposed by the back four, in which Jackson and Barrett were once again outstanding.
The girls went with two XIs to Sevenoaks, to play Sevenoaks School's 1st and Under 15 XIs for the first time. This was a tough test for our inexperienced youngsters - Sevenoaks were finalists in last week's Under 18 County Tournament - and sadly they were too strong for us in both fixtures. We did not score - they did, with frequency! This will be a good week to bounce back - junior matches against Sutton Valence, a 1st XI fixture against King's Canterbury, and the Under 16 County Tournament on Thursday.
