Basketball - Victory at Ramsgate
Date: Wednesday 15 October 2008
After last week's narrow defeat at the hands of St Lawrence College, the 1st team squad was itching for revenge as they travelled with Messrs Urey and Millard to Ramsgate for the return leg.
As predicted at Monday's School Line, that victory was achieved by the same margin as last week's defeat: 50 - 44 after a consistent performance in which the SES boys retained control throughout the four quarters of the match.
The return of Ben Easter clearly strengthened the defence in terms of winning rebounds, and Arnie Dunning bounced back from his being 'bounced' last time out, to get back on the scoresheet alongside Matt Hsieh, Zhaoqi Tong and Zhiheng Liu.
Ten points up at the start of the final quarter, St Ed's controlled the ball far better than at the same stage last week, and held on for the first win of the season. Physical strength, in a small gym, was paramount - and we prevailed on the day.
After half-term the House match programme kicks in, with Wednesdays given over to a senior, and then a junior tournament, both played in a round-robin format. Who are this year's favourites?
