Junior House Match Football
Date: Tuesday 4 November 2008
The semi-finals of the Junior House competition were played this afternoon on the Jackman Field, and both proved high-scoring affairs.
On the 'Near Far', Warneford were too strong for Wagner, and ran away with the game in the second half to finish as 5 - 0 winners. Daniel Gladwin opened the scoring late in the first half, and, after the interval Edam Naseem, Lewis Piper, and Max Bungay (2) piled on the misery for a Wagner squad for whom Max Anglin never stopped running, but who fashioned very few chances to test the Warneford defence.
On the tiniest of our pitches, Watson controlled their game against Baker until Oscar Jackson had to be substituted early in the second half. Two goals from Jack Blain had given Watson a lead, but a brace from Sekiguchi, one from Dominic Barrett, and four from Tom Wylie, taking advantage of Watson's depleted defence, broke Watson resistance, and they could only manage a late consolation goal from Ricky Ng. 7 - 3 was the final tally.
Next week, again on Tuesday, the final and play-off are due to take place. Can Baker match the strength of the Warneford side? I suspect that Warneford will have the edge, particularly in midfield, and in defence.
